What Is RAM Disk In Linux?

RAM disk is a portion of the RAM that is mounted in your Linux as a directory.

Make sure you have enough free RAM on the system so that portion of RAM can be allocated as a RAM disk. Now, Let’s create directory /mnt/ram_disk_name in your Linux.

mkdir /mnt/ram_disk_name

Now, mount RAM disk on it.

mount -t tmpfs -o size=1024m new_ram_disk /mnt/ram_disk_name

We are using tmpfs type in above command as you can also ramfs type.

You can verify if it has been mounted properly or not using df command.
