The development lifecycle of Ubuntu 20.04 includes the 27-week release schedule. Canonical follows a 25-week schedule for October releases and a 27-week schedule for April. This release will be supported for 10 years as an ‘extended maintenance release’ (ESM).

The Ubuntu 20.04 release date is April 23, 2020.

Some of the features in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS are:

 

  • Ubuntu 20.04 will have the latest GNOME 3.36 release
  • Will feature the latest Linux Kernel 5.5 (or newer)
  • Improved ZFS install support
  • .iso image with less size
  • The lightning extension feature added to Thunderbird
  • Multi-monitor support in GDM
  • Fractional scaling in Xorg session
  • New wallpapers

February 27th: FeatureFreeze

Mar 19, 2020: User Interface freeze

Mar 26, 2020: Documentation string freeze

April 2, 2020: Beta Freeze

April 9, 2020: Kernel freeze

April 16 – Final freeze

April 23 – Final stable release
